Porcelain Veneer Consultations
Ask about veneers at Cosmic Smiles for Kids and Adult Dentistry. Our dental staff will help you determine if porcelain veneers are the right choice available for you.
What you want cosmetic improvements you wish to have corrected is critical for a successful result and Dr. Robison and Dr. Plummer-Molina’s years of experience will help guide you in the best decision for a new, beautiful smile.
A dentist from one of Cosmic Smiles for Kids and Adult Dentistry’s Naples or Marco Island office will begin with a smile analysis to outline the necessary steps to give you the beautiful smile you deserve. A diagnostic mock-up will allow you to virtually “try on” veneers and other procedures to see if the final result is what you’re seeking.
Deciding that porcelain veneers will create the look you want is only the first step in the process; there is more to learn before beginning the procedure.
Why Choose Porcelain Veneers and How Do They Work?
Laminate porcelain veneers are a compilation of thin layers of ceramic that replace original tooth enamel, and an adhesive layer. To apply a veneer, a tiny layer of tooth enamel is removed. This creates room for the porcelain veneer to fit and restore tooth function while creating an even better appearance than the original tooth.
The bond between tooth and porcelain veneer is extremely important. It not only provides the desired look, but also creates the strong bond for correct veneer function. Light-reacting resin is hardened using a special curing light to bond the veneer to the natural tooth.
Porcelain veneers are a great option when the original tooth has poor color, shape, and contours. It is a good choice for fractured teeth, gaps, and sometimes when the tooth position is incorrect and there are minor bite-related problems. Some people’s teeth do not respond to tooth whitening or bleaching. For them, a porcelain veneer may be their best option for beautiful, healthy looking teeth.
The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Because porcelain veneers are sculpted for individual patients, it’s almost impossible to differentiate a veneer and a natural tooth beside the fact that custom-made porcelain veneers do not stain from coffee, tea or cigarette smoke!
Unlike crowns, with porcelain veneers your teeth remain largely intact with only a miniscule amount being altered to fit the veneer.
Porcelain Veneer Maintenance
Maintaining porcelain veneers is simple: treat them as you would your original teeth, brush and floos routinely using non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste.
1 week after your veneers are placed, you’ll be required to return to Cosmic Smiles for Kids and Adult Dentistry for a follow-up visit and evaluation to see how your mouth is adjusting to them. This appointment is vital to your future oral health.
If you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth, your dentist may fit you with a nighttime bite guard so you do not damage your veneers.
You should also return for regular maintenance. Porcelain veneers need to be polished with a special, non-abrasive paste. During these visits Dr. Robison or Dr. Plummer-Molina will inspect your teeth for any sign of potential failure.
